Neverwinter Nights isnt complete without this
Hordes of the Underdark, wow.
The 2nd and (supposedly) final expansion for the grand game that is Neverwinter Nights, the story is a continuation of the one started in Shadows of Undrentide(and its best to get SOU before this), but its epic in every sense of the word.
Like Undrentide it adds many new features, including tilesets(mainly Underdark ones), extremely powerful creatures such as dracolichs, demilichs and new types of dragons.
It adds 6 new prestige classes, all of which are very interesting, for example:
Red Dragon Disciple- You get dragon abilities and grow wings!
Pale Master- You get undead abilities and get an undead arm!

It adds new features, moreso than Undrentide.
But one of the greatest features in the OC, HOTU has been made epic, you can get to levels above 20 and will complete the game near to Level 30.
However, I find the campaign, superbly constructed, giving a more of an RP aspect, and getting close to matching the story of Baldurs Gate II(which IMO is the best storyline in a game, ever). The story travels from Waterdeep to the dreaded Underdark and eventually to the... I wont spoil the story for you.

HOTU is a great game and completes the Neverwinter Nights package, and essential purchase, and face it, every likes have powerful characters!

Although some things in HOTU only work if SOU is installed so I recommend getting that first, despite HOTU being better.

Even better than Undrentide!
Hordes of the Underdark is, simply, an excellent expansion pack for Neverwinter Nights. It does everything that an add-on pack should do: gives you more playing time through an extra campaign, improves the basics (like graphics), adds extra stuff for you to find, and improves the gameplay engine thats already there.
* The new campaign finds the town of Waterdeep under attack from the drow (dark elves). After an attack in the (token) inn where the townspeople are hiding out, you soon find yourself exploring the Undermountain - a strange dungeon created by a mad wizard. But there is another world beneath this world holding new horrors for you and your comrades.
* Epic-level characters means you can progress up to level 40!
* To aid in this there are new Epic Feats, new Epic Prestige Classes, new Feats and Epic Feats, new Spells and Epic Spells.
* Loads of new items, including Acid Flasks, Firebomb Flasks, Tanglefoot Bags.
* The ability to craft new items from base materials like hide, planks, iron, steel, feathers. Use Brew Potion (on an empty flask), Scribe Scroll (on blank parchment) or Craft Wand to create new magical items! Use dye to change the colour of armour and clothing!
* Five new tilesets - The Underdark, Frozen Wastes, Drow Interior, Illithid Interior and Beholder Caves.
* Armour now has a robes part, which covers part of the armour.
* For level creators, the Aurora Toolset has several improvements, including new wizards, wings and tails, scripts, and of course access to all the juicy new items, spells, feats, tilesets, and so on!
* Improved henchmen with better AI, fully usable inventories, and customisable behaviour.
* Improved game graphics.

As you can see this is an excellent expansion. The campaign is for level 15 and above (you can select from a handful of new 15th-level characters), and there is so much new content to play with (both in-game and with the editor) youll be playing this for months!

Expansive..
While Neverwinter Nights previous and first expansion pack, Shadows of Undrentide, gave us another campaign to play through and a few nice additions to the Aurora toolset, at no point did i feel that it really changed or improved the game as a whole.
The same cannot be said about Hordes of the Underdark, however.
Perhaps most significantly, this second expansion gives us epic level gameplay - your NWN character can now reach level 40, allowing for far more grand and spectacular battles than before, and making the new 20 hour campaign (if you do everything this could easily stretch to over 30 hours) a truly epic experience.
Bioware have also tweaked the games graphics slightly, and the in-game camera has been freed up a lot, further enhancing gameplay.
It is not only the gameplay and visuals that have been expanded upon however, as builders will be glad to know that Neverwinters Aurora toolset has been improved considerably - there are new monsters, 5 new tilesets, new placeable objects, many, many new scripting functions, and you can now add a skybox to your module - which combined with the greater camera freedom can make for visually stunning environments. Further additions include new weapon parts and colours, robes, and new sounds and music.
The campaign itself is great fun to play through, with a gripping story and clever use of the new script functions, this is arguably far better than the main games original quest.
Bioware really have listened to their fans here, and the vast majority of NWN fans will be more than pleased with Hordes of the Underdark - while even casual players will find the new campaign worth the price alone, module builders and fans simply cannot be without this expansion pack. Essential.
